Job Purpose
Reporting to the Operations Manager, the Manager - Mineral Resource Management (MRM) is responsible for the strategic planning, estimation, reconciliation, and optimal utilisation of mineral resources and ore reserves. This role ensures that resource and reserve models are accurate, compliant with reporting standards (e.g., JORC, SAMREC, or NI 43-101), and effectively integrated into short-, medium-, and long-term mine planning. The incumbent drives value maximisation from the orebody while ensuring responsible, efficient, and sustainable extraction aligned with the mine's overall business strategy.
Key Responsibilities
Your duties will include but are not limited to the following:
- Lead the Lumwana Mineral Resource Management Department to achieve the business plan while adhering to health and safety protocols.
- Ensure adherence to all statutory requirements and Company Safety, Health and Environmental standards and procedures.
- Collaborate with planning and mining to ensure and optimise the life-of-mine (LOM) plan on a rolling basis, optimising blends by maintaining a steady mine feed grade and tonnage, thereby optimising milling and plant performance to deliver metal production targets.
- Understand and report on all geological risks and opportunities and highlight their impacts on the mine plan.
- Ensure ROM stockpile levels allow blending flexibility by optimising ROM pad designs and stockpiling strategy, ensuring safe and efficient production and versatility when reclaiming.
- Provide technical, geological, hydrogeological and geotechnical support to mining operations and the process plant.
- Understand and report on all geological changes and highlight their impacts on the mine plan.
- Ensure the efficient planning and coordination of all geological activities to meet operational targets.
- Manage and oversee all Grade Control and Resource Definition Drilling.
- Manage and oversee Mineral Resource and Grade Control models, ensuring they are optimally estimated according to required international codes and within budget.
- Manage and track ore block depletion to minimise ore loss and dilution by ensuring blocks are optimally designed, correct mark-ups are in place, and blocks are tracked in FMS.
- Prepare weekly, monthly and quarterly reporting, including full mine-to-mill reconciliations, with a focus on continuous improvement and optimisation of Lumwana resources.
- Manage contractors involved in drilling, mining and employment, ensuring consistent delivery of services in line with safety and quality requirements.
- Ensure compliance of resource estimates with international professional standards and government regulations for public disclosures by working with the wider geology team.
- Collaborate with Exploration in the identification and conversion of new resource opportunities into reserves.
- Train and mentor MRM team members, maintaining an active approach to continuous improvement.
- Perform geological and mineral resource/reserve reviews, audits and due diligence assessments to maximise value.
- Manage and track MRM capital projects to ensure that budget, timelines and quality requirements are met.
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Geology. A master's degree in Geology will be an added advantage.
- Minimum of ten (10) years' relevant experience in Mineral Resource Management or Geology, with at least 5 years in a managerial or senior technical role.
- Proven experience in large-scale open-cast/open-pit mining operations.
- Sound commercial acumen and understanding of cost, value and risk drivers in open-cast mining.
- Demonstrated capability and attitude to lead, share and discuss resource estimation workflows with a team, as well as demonstrated seniority and confidence in resource estimation.
- Valid EIZ registration.
