About the Organisation

Northern Zambia Union Conference (NZUC) serves the mission of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in northern Zambia. Its health ministry seeks to reflect Christ's healing work through compassionate, whole-person care, health education and service to communities. Kitwe Polytech Hospital (KTPH) is the Union's healthcare department serving the community through clinical, nursing, diagnostic, pharmaceutical and oral health services.

NZUC invites qualified professionals to apply for the six positions below. The responsibilities and requirements are set out in full on the following pages.

1. Medical Director

Reports to: Board of Directors

The Medical Director will serve as chief executive and senior clinical leader of KTPH, combining direct patient care with strategic, operational, financial and clinical leadership. The role oversees clinical and non-clinical departments and advances high-quality whole-person care in harmony with Seventh-day Adventist health principles and applicable healthcare requirements.

Key Responsibilities

• Uphold the institution's identity as an extension of Christ's healing ministry and promote whole-person care.
• Maintain an active physician practice providing preventive care, diagnosis and treatment of acute and chronic conditions.
• Oversee clinical quality, patient safety, evidence-based practice and professional development.
• Serve as principal liaison to the Board and report on clinical performance, finances, compliance and strategic initiatives.
• Chair the Administrative Committee, implement decisions and develop short- and long-term institutional plans.
• Maintain compliance with HPCZ standards, Ministry of Health requirements and applicable Zambian law.
• Oversee Nursing, Radiology, Laboratory, Pharmacy, Reception and facility maintenance operations.
• Manage operating budgets, capital plans, financial performance, billing, collections and staffing expenses.
• Lead recruitment, training and performance evaluation and address escalated staff and patient matters.
• Monitor clinical outcomes, patient safety, quality improvement programmes and operational and clinical risks.

Qualifications and Experience

• Medical degree (MBChB or equivalent) from a recognised institution.
• Full HPCZ registration as a medical doctor and a current practising certificate.
• Specialisation in Family Medicine (MMed or equivalent) is strongly preferred.
• A Master’s in Healthcare or Business Administration is an advantage.
• At least five years of clinical experience as a physician, including at least two years in a leadership or supervisory role.
• Healthcare administration, clinic management or departmental leadership experience is preferred.
• Experience managing multidisciplinary teams and service coverage is desirable.
• Strong clinical competence, leadership, budgeting and revenue management skills.
• Knowledge of Zambian health regulations and HPCZ standards.
• Active membership of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in good standing, as specified in the job description.

2. Nurse In-Charge

Reports to: Medical Director

The Nurse In-Charge will supervise and provide nursing services and clinical care to support quality healthcare for patients while ensuring adherence to nursing standards and effective management of ward staff and resources.

Key Responsibilities

• Supervise and administer prescribed basic treatment to promote and restore health.
• Provide counselling to staff, patients and relatives regarding emotional, social and psychological needs.
• Supervise and provide nursing care to support patient recovery.
• Oversee timely preparation of nursing care plans for clinical decisions.
• Inspect wards regularly to confirm adherence to standards.
• Manage staff and resources within the ward to provide a suitable environment for patient recovery.
• Oversee departmental and individual work plans, monitor performance and supervise ward resources.
• Ensure adherence to safety and health requirements and account for resources under the position's charge.

Qualifications and Experience

• Form V or Grade 12 School Certificate with five O Levels, including English, Mathematics and Science or Biology.
• Diploma in Nursing and a certificate in Midwifery, Theatre or Mental Health.
• Five years of post-basic midwifery experience, as stated in the supplied job description.
• Ability to write comprehensive analytical reports and communicate effectively in English and local languages.
• Computer literacy, public relations, management, counselling and advocacy skills.

3. Laboratory Technician

Reports to: Medical Director

The Laboratory Technician will perform laboratory tests to support diagnosis and patient management, maintain laboratory resources and contribute to quality, safety and accurate reporting.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform complex tests on clinical specimens and provide reliable results.
• Collect specimens from required sources for analysis.
• Maintain reagent and consumable stocks to prevent shortages and overstocking.
• Use automated and computerised equipment for multiple tests and conduct routine user maintenance.
• Support training of junior staff and medical students.
• Serve as laboratory or section safety officer and ensure adherence to safety guidelines.
• Collect laboratory data and prepare summaries and reports for management.

Qualifications and Experience

• Grade 12 School Certificate.
• Diploma in Biomedical Sciences.
• No minimum pre-job experience is specified in the supplied job description.
• Ability to write clear English reports and communicate fluently in English.
• Confidentiality, integrity and analytical skills.

4. Pharmacy Technologist

Reports to: Medical Director

The Pharmacy Technologist will assist in preparing, storing, compounding and dispensing medicines in accordance with prescriptions or formulae and the direction of the unit pharmacist.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage medicine storage and stock control to maintain pharmaceutical services.
• Prepare, assemble, label, order, store and dispense medicines and pharmaceutical compounds with appropriate instructions.
• Support training of pharmacy technologists, technicians and other junior staff.
• Monitor the use of essential medicines and pharmaceuticals and identify required interventions.
• Safeguard pharmaceutical equipment, medicines and their quality.
• Manage the withdrawal and destruction of expired medicines within authorised procedures.
• Help address irrational prescribing and prevent shortages and dispensing errors.

Qualifications and Experience

• Full Grade 12 or Form V Cambridge School Certificate.
• Diploma in Pharmacy Technology from a recognised college.
• Professional registration as specified in the supplied job description.
• No minimum pre-job experience is specified.
• Ability to write clearly in English and communicate fluently in English and local languages.

5. Radiographer

Reports to: Medical Director

The Radiographer will coordinate, supervise and manage radiology operations to provide basic and specialised medical imaging services and support safe, cost-effective patient care.

Key Responsibilities

• Coordinate medical imaging services for efficient, high-quality patient care.
• Manage staff, finances and material resources within radiology.
• Plan and deliver continuing professional development for radiographers and technologists.
• Supervise senior technical staff and coordinate departmental operations.
• Contribute to action plans, budgets and resource mobilisation.
• Maintain equipment service schedules, inventories and logbooks as part of quality assurance.
• Participate in operational research in diagnostic radiography to improve clinical practice.
• Promote teamwork, communication and regular departmental meetings.
• Enforce radiation safety and health requirements for patients, staff and the public.

Qualifications and Experience

• Full Grade 12 Certificate or equivalent.
• BSc in Diagnostic Radiography from an internationally recognised university.
• Full registration with the Health Professions Council of Zambia.
• At least five years of relevant experience.
• Ability to write technical reports and communicate clear instructions in English.
• Integrity, initiative, confidentiality, computer literacy, negotiation, interpersonal skills and team leadership.

6. Dental Surgeon

Reports to: Medical Director

The Dental Surgeon will provide oral health services and appropriate management to patients while maintaining accurate clinical records and following patient and staff safety requirements.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct timely oral examinations, investigations, initial treatment and appropriate consultations.
• Provide quality oral healthcare and make appropriate clinical decisions concerning patient care.
• Maintain accurate oral health clinical records to support patient care and clinical performance.
• Follow patient and staff safety guidelines and account for departmental resources.
• Maintain integrity, initiative, confidentiality and empathy in patient care.

Qualifications and Experience

• Full Grade 12 or Form V School Certificate.
• Dental Surgery qualification (BDS or equivalent) plus a postgraduate qualification, as specified in the supplied job description.
• No minimum pre-job experience is specified.
• Ability to write technical papers and communicate in English.
• Integrity, initiative and empathy.
