Job Purpose
The primary objective of this position is to facilitate customs processes at the border to ensure documents move efficiently and to update the clearance team.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Follow up with Customs officers on approval letters and other documents.
- Examine and verify customs documents and make the relevant entry registrations.
- Follow up with Customs officers on RO issuance and T1 registration.
- Coordinate documents with fleet drivers and other runners.
- Prepare and submit all relevant truck import and export documents to ensure full compliance with local and cross-border authorities.
- Perform any other duties as may be assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications and Experience
- Minimum Diploma in Clearing and Forwarding or related field.
- Must reside near the border in Nakonde.
- Minimum of 2 years' extensive experience as a Border/Customs Runner.
- Must have established relationships with Customs officials.
- Works diligently, provides timely feedback, and remains reachable by phone unless network coverage is genuinely unavailable.
- Experience handling RIB bonded warehouse customs clearance running.
Other Requirements
- Proactive and hardworking attitude.
- Must reside near the border area.
- Willing to work overtime at night, as documents may need to be handed over to the fleet during evening hours.
- Experience with ASYCUDA system operations is an advantage.
Salary
Gross Salary: ZMW 5,000.00 to ZMW 6,000.00 per month.

Job Description
Zambia Sugar PLC is an ABF Group sugar company and is the leading sugar producer in Zambia. Its main activities are the growing of sugar cane, the production and marketing of sugar and other sugar downstream products.
The Company invites applications from suitably qualified and experienced persons to fill the following position in the Finance Department to be based at Nakambala.
Customs Officer x 1
This position reports to the Customs Analyst.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure full compliance with the Customs and Excise Act and all related tax obligations.
- Prepare and submit accurate export customs entries through ASYCUDA World.
- Ensuring that all customs declarations are correctly classified and valued, based on current registration and practice.
- Ensuring that payment of export fees to the ZRA are made timely.
- Monitor the correct application of trade agreements and preferential schemes, including SADC, COMESA, and other relevant trade protocols.
- Assist in reviewing and validating supporting documentation before customs declaration submission.
- Coordinate and manage the dispatch of sugar exports from Nakambala to various border points and ensure timely exit clearance of shipments.
- Maintain and monitor export dispatch tracking reports to ensure timely movement and delivery of consignments.
- Ensuring that Export sales documents submitted by the agent are complete and compliant for Value Added Tax (“VAT”) Rule 18 and duty drawback (“DDB”) purposes.
- Maintain a record of documents submitted for duty drawback to avoid having time-barred claims.
- Assisting with the development and updating of internal customs procedures to ensure efficiency in the management and mitigation of Tax risks associated with exports.
- Continuously engaging the customer service section (CSC) to ensure timely export clearance of Sugar.
- Ensure efficient clearing of all business exports and support the commercial team on clearing matters.
- Promote and adhere to ABF procedures, policies and guidelines, including, without limitation, those relating to Safety, Health, Environment, Risk, & Quality, Competition Law and Anti-Bribery and Corruption (ABC).
Minimum Requirements
- Grade 12 Certificate.
- Relevant professional certificate, diploma, or degree in Clearing and Forwarding, Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or a related field. A Customs Advanced Diploma will be an added advantage.
- 3-5 years’ experience.
- Impressive, demonstrable track record and skills / experience gained within a similar position (s), at a similar level.
- Being a member of the Zambia Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport or Zambia Institute of Purchasing and Supply or Zambia Institute of Chartered Accountants will be an added advantage.
- Suitably qualified applicants must provide certificates which have been verified by the Zambia Qualifications Authority (ZAQA).

Assistant Customs Officer x 1
This position reports to the Customs Officer.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure compliance with Customs and Excise regulations, statutory requirements, and company policies.
- Assist in the preparation, review, and submission of accurate customs entries through ASYCUDA World.
- Receive and review export documentation for completeness and accuracy of supporting documents.
- Ensure all required permits, certificates, and licenses are available before the declaration processing.
- Update customs records and shipment status information.
- Maintain physical customs files and electronic records.
- Track customs documents and clearance status.
- Assist during customs audits and inspections.
- Administer and reconcile export acquittal documentation, ensuring completeness, accuracy, and timely filing.
- Assisting in the preparation and submission of duty drawback claims.
- Maintain a record of documents submitted for duty drawback outstanding entries to avoid having time-barred claims.
- Ensure ASYCUDA Export transactions and invoices are reconciled to the payments received from the Customers.
- Assist in ensuring efficient clearing of all business exports and support the commercial team on clearing matters.
- Assist in ensuring tax compliance as provided under the Customs and Excise Act.
- Assist in ensuring that payment of export fees to the ZRA is made timely.
