The Zambia Agency for Persons with Disabilities (ZAPD) is a quasi-government institution established under the Persons with Disabilities Act No. 06 of 2012 with a mandate to plan, promote, coordinate, regulate and administer inclusive services of and for persons with disabilities in Zambia.
The Agency is hereby inviting suitably qualified individuals that meet the specified qualifications to fill the following vacant position:
Farm Manager
Position: Farm Manager (1)
Location: Mimosa Farm - Chilanga, Lusaka
Purpose of the Job
Responsible for overseeing the daily operations of a farm; ensuring efficiency, productivity, profitability and sustainability.
Responsibilities
- Crop Management: Planning, planting, irrigating, fertilizing, and harvesting crops.
- Livestock Management: Overseeing animal health, nutrition, breeding and welfare.
- Budgeting and Financial Management: Prepare farm budgets, workplans, production forecasts and periodic performance.
- Staff Supervision: Training and supervising farm workers and other staff members, ensuring effective allocation of duties and adherence to occupational health and safety requirements.
- Equipment Maintenance: Ensuring tractors, tools and other equipment are in good working condition.
- Land Management: Maintain soil health, controlling pests and diseases, and implementing conservation practices.
- Marketing and Sales: Identifying opportunities for improving farm productivity, income generation and commercial viability. Identifying markets, pricing products and negotiating sales.
- Regulatory Compliance: Adhering to laws, regulations and industry standards related to farming practices, environmental impact and worker safety.
- Record Keeping: Accurately documenting farm activities, finances and productivity.
- Strategic Planning: Setting goals, analyzing data and making informed decisions to improve farm performance.
- Supply Chain Management: Sourcing inputs, managing inventory and logistics.
- Risk Management: Mitigating risks related to weather, disease, market fluctuations, and other factors.
- Promote sustainable and climate smart agricultural practices.
- Any other duties assigned to you.
Qualifications and Relevant Skills
- Grade Twelve Certificate with Credit in English and Mathematics - Verified by ZAQA.
- Diploma in Agriculture - Verified by ZAQA.
- Minimum of 2 years' work experience in a similar position.
Other Skills and Attributes
- Ability to work with persons with disabilities.
- Integrity and confidentiality.
- Good interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Good record keeping and report writing skills.
