NICO Insurance Zambia Limited is a leading general insurance company committed to providing innovative and customer-focused insurance solutions. The company is seeking a suitably qualified and experienced candidate for the position of Assistant Underwriting Manager - SME/Retail Lines.
The Role
The successful candidate will assist in managing the SME/Retail Lines Unit in line with the Company's strategy, policies and procedures.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the planning and management of underwriting operations, including analysing market trends, business performance and claims experience.
- Manage renewals and ensure renewal notices and documentation are processed within the required timelines.
- Review and approve underwriting transactions within authorised limits and escalate matters where appropriate.
- Conduct risk surveys and risk assessments for existing and prospective business.
- Assess new risks, determine appropriate terms and prepare quotations within authorised limits.
- Monitor premium bookings and support the achievement of underwriting targets.
- Manage and maintain relationships with brokers, agents and clients.
- Provide technical underwriting advice to existing and prospective clients.
- Ensure underwriting operations comply with applicable regulatory requirements, KYC requirements and client service level agreements.
- Address stakeholder and client complaints within agreed service levels.
- Supervise, guide and train underwriting staff on procedures, policy coverage and underwriting systems.
Qualifications & Experience
- A first degree in Insurance, Business Administration, Finance, Economics or equivalent, certified by ZAQA.
- 3 to 6 years' relevant experience in general insurance.

- Ability to manage and develop staff.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to prepare accurate reports.
- Good planning and organisational skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving ability.
- Effective interpersonal and negotiation skills with the ability to achieve agreed targets.
