About the Employer
The University of Lusaka (UNILUS) is inviting applications from suitably qualified and experienced individuals for the position of Corporate Communications Specialist.
Job Purpose
To coordinate the University’s internal and external communications, support media and stakeholder relations, and promote and protect the University’s reputation while ensuring communication is accurate, consistent, timely and aligned with institutional objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement corporate communication plans aligned with the University’s strategic objectives.
- Prepare and edit press releases, speeches, official statements, newsletters, reports and other institutional communication materials.
- Provide communication support to the Vice-Chancellor and University Management, including speeches, briefing notes and correspondence.
- Establish and maintain media relationships and coordinate media coverage and responses to enquiries.
- Coordinate internal communication with schools and administrative departments.
- Identify and publicize University achievements, research, partnerships, student success stories and community engagement activities.
- Coordinate content for the University’s website and official social media platforms in collaboration with the Marketing team.
- Monitor media coverage and public feedback and prepare reports on matters affecting the University’s reputation.
- Support crisis communication plans, including drafting statements and coordinating approved responses.
- Ensure communication materials comply with University brand guidelines and approval procedures.
- Support communication and media arrangements for University events, official visits and stakeholder engagements.
- Maintain records of official communications, media contacts, publications and media coverage.
- Perform any other duties assigned by Management.
Minimum Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mass Communication, Journalism, Public Relations, Corporate Communication, Media Studies or a related field.
- Master’s Degree in Corporate Communication or a related field is an added advantage.
- Minimum of five (5) years’ relevant experience in corporate communications, public relations or journalism.
- Experience in a higher education institution is an added advantage.
- Demonstrated experience preparing speeches, press releases, reports and other corporate communication materials.
- Membership of the Zambia Institute of Public Relations and Communication (ZIPRC) is an added advantage.
Key Skills and Attributes
- Presentable and professional with impeccable corporate etiquette.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including strong editing and proofreading abilities.
- Experience in media relations, stakeholder engagement and managing digital communication platforms.
- Sound judgement, confidentiality and professionalism when handling sensitive information.
- Strong interpersonal and organisational skills.
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
- Computer literacy and proficiency in digital communication and content management tools.
