About ZABS
ZABS is a statutory body currently operating under the Standards Act No. 4 of 2017. Under this Act, ZABS is mandated to provide Standardization and Quality Assurance services to industry in order to support production of goods and services of acceptable quality for national, regional and international markets. ZABS also acts as a link between local industry and regional and international standardization and quality assurance (SQA) organizations.
The Bureau wishes to invite suitably qualified and experienced candidates to fill the following vacant positions:
1. Senior Laboratory Analyst – Condoms, Petroleum and Textiles (ZABS 04 × 1)
Job Purpose
To ensure the quality and safety of products by conducting thorough laboratory analyses and tests on condoms, textiles, packaging, petroleum, and engineering laboratories by adhering to national and international standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinating comprehensive analytical testing and rigorous evaluation of sample materials to ensure full compliance with established regulatory standards and quality specifications.
- Reviews, validates, and authorizes test reports, ensuring the accurate preparation and presentation of analytical results with precision and technical clarity.
- Implements and maintains quality assurance protocols as stipulated by ISO 17025:2017 International Standard.
- Ensures all laboratory equipment is properly maintained and calibrated.
- Ensures all activities comply with relevant regulations and standards.
Qualifications, Experience & Personal Attributes
- Grade 12 Certificate.
- Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
- ZAQA qualification verification certificates.
- Relevant certifications in laboratory analysis and quality assurance, including training in ISO/IEC 17025:2017 international standard.
- High level of accuracy in document management, record-keeping, and procurement processing.
- 5 years in a laboratory setting, preferably with experience in testing condoms, petroleum, packaging, and textiles, of which 3 years should be at management level.
- Proficiency in laboratory equipment and testing methodologies used in condoms, petroleum, packaging, and textiles testing.
- High level of accuracy in conducting tests and reporting results.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to interpret complex data and make informed decisions.
2. Standards Officer – Food and Beverage (ZABS 5 × 1)
Job Purpose
To undertake the development of national standards for food, agriculture and related fields in order to enhance the quality, safety and competitiveness of products and services on the market.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and review national standards in the area of food, agriculture and related fields in line with regional and international best practices in order to contribute to enhancement of the quality, safety and competitiveness of products and services on the market.
- Monitor and participate in regional and international standards development activities (ARSO, ISO, CODEX) and facilitate the adoption or adaptation of relevant standards for local application.
- Coordinate effective participation of technical experts in all regional and international standardization work and adopt international and regional standards to ensure that applicable products and services that comply with Zambian standards also meet the requirements of the region and rest of the world.
- Collaborate with industry stakeholders to address emerging trends and innovations in the fields of food and agriculture.
- Undertake regularly the harmonization of Zambian Standards with those in the region and the rest of the world in order to improve the competitiveness of Zambian products and services locally and internationally.
- Undertake the provision of secretarial services to the Technical Committees on standards development in order to facilitate their smooth operations.
- Conduct technical training for internal staff and external stakeholders on new standards and regulatory requirements.
- Ensure timely revision and amendment of Zambian Standards so that they are in line with the state of the art and technology applicable for the products and services.
- Compile accurate and timely reports as well as standardization related documentation which will facilitate decision-making.
- Maintain up-to-date records of all standards development related activities.
Qualifications, Experience & Personal Attributes
- Grade 12 Certificate.
- ZAQA Verification Certificates.
- Bachelor's Degree in Food Science, Food Technology or a Food related degree.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in standardization and quality assurance or a related role.
- Must have good communication skills.
- Ability to write technical reports.
- Computer Literate.
3. Training Officer (ZABS 5 × 01)
Job Purpose
To provide training on standards to industry and other stakeholders in order to enhance their capacity in the interpretation and application of various standards as well as to enhance the quality, safety and competitiveness of products and services on the market.
Key Responsibilities
- Conducts regular assessments to identify training needs in specified sectors within industry and executes action plans to ensure that the training curriculum meet current market needs.
- Designs and develops comprehensive training programs and materials that align with the Bureau's objectives and industry standards.
- Ensures training content is current, relevant, and engaging for participants.
- Undertakes effectively the provision of Standardization Quality Assurance (SQA) consultancy services in order to enhance the competitiveness of the industry.
- Conducts training sessions, workshops, and seminars, utilizing various instructional methods to accommodate diverse learning styles.
- Undertakes effectively the provision of training on standards to industry and other stakeholders in order to enhance their capacity in the interpretation and application of various standards.
- Maintains accurate records of training activities, participant attendance, and training outcomes.
- Prepares reports on training programs for management review, including recommendations for future training initiatives.
- Stays updated on industry trends, standards, and best practices in training and development.
- Pursues professional development opportunities to enhance personal competencies and training methodologies.
- Perform other duties as maybe assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications, Experience & Personal Attributes
- Grade 12 Certificate.
- ZAQA qualifications verification certificates.
- Bachelor's degree in any Natural Science or Bachelor of Engineering degree in any field or a related field.
- Teaching methodology or Train the Trainer certificate.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Google Workspace.
- Three (3) years of experience in training and development, preferably within a standards or regulatory environment.
- Experience with Learning Management Systems (LMS) and e-learning platforms is an added advantage.
- Familiarity with adult learning principles and instructional design methodologies.
- Basic knowledge of graphic design tools is a plus.
- Knowledgeable in at least one ISO standard e.g. ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001.
- Expertise in instructional design, adult learning principles, and training facilitation.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills for effective training delivery and reporting.
- Ability to analyses training needs, evaluate program effectiveness, and make data driven decisions.
4. Marketing Officer (ZABS 5 × 1)
Job Purpose
To support the planning, execution and evaluation of marketing strategies in order to promote and create demand for ZABS services.
Key Responsibilities
- Executes marketing campaigns to promote ZABS services and create demand for ZABS services.
- Develops promotional materials, including brochures, social media content, and website updates.
- Collaborates with internal teams to ensure the consistency of marketing messages and alignment with ZABS's goals.
- Undertakes the conduct of special events, trade shows, exhibitions, workshops and other marketing events in order to provide platforms for information sharing and awareness.
- Conducts market research to understand the needs and perceptions of stakeholders, and analyze trends in the standards industry.
- Provides insights and recommendations to improve ZABS's service delivery and market positioning.
- Prepares reports on marketing campaign performance and market insights for management.
- Ensures that the ZABS brand is consistently represented across all marketing channels and materials.
- Develops and implements strategies to build the ZABS brand and strengthen its reputation as the national standards body.
- Manages ZABS's digital presence, including social media platforms and the official website.
- Implements digital campaigns that engage stakeholders and increase visibility online.
- Monitors online engagement and adjust digital marketing strategies based on analytics.
- Maintains strong relationships with key stakeholders, including government agencies, industry players, and the public.
- Responds to queries from the public, stakeholders, ensuring accurate and timely information delivery.
- Identifies and pursues new business opportunities to increase the uptake of ZABS training services and expand the client base.
- Follows up on customer enquiries, quotations, and converts prospects into sales to achieve revenue and service uptake targets.

- Grade 12 Certificate.

- Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, or a related field.
- 3 years of experience.
- Must have good communication skill.
- Makes day-to-day decisions regarding marketing strategies, content creation, and campaign management.
- Discretion over how to manage public relations issues and address stakeholder queries.
- Resolves issues related to campaign effectiveness, brand representation, and public perception.
- Valid Driver's License – Class B may be an added advantage.
5. Assistant Laboratory Analyst – Electrical (ZABS 6 × 01)
Job Purpose
To conduct tests and provide analytical data and related information in the Electrical and Solar Product Testing laboratory and any other fields deemed competent in line with ISO/IEC 17025 standard.
Key Responsibilities
- To perform laboratory and field test work as required in accordance with approved test methods and procedures.
- Maintain a healthy and safe working environment.
- To carry out sampling and sample preparation in accordance with approved procedures.
- To ensure that equipment and apparatus are in good condition before and after use and isolate defective equipment.
- To monitor receipt, storage of both electrical and solar product samples and maintain records.
- To compile test reports and other reports on work carried out for submission to superiors.
- Carry out investigations on customer complaints and provide timely feedback.
- Competent in operating Battery analyzers, Crank testers, multimeter (analogue and digital), Solar testing equipment, insulation resistance testers, conductor resistance tester and high voltage tester.
- To carry out appropriate checks and tests to ensure the accuracy of test results.
- Assist superiors in maintaining a credible quality assurance system.
- Plan work to ensure Turn Around Time (TAT) of results compliance and monitor consumables to minimize disruption to operations.
- To monitor environmental conditions in accordance with established procedures and take necessary precautions to avoid accidents.
Qualifications, Experience & Personal Attributes
- Full Grade 12 Certificate.
- Diploma in electrical and electronics or equivalent.
- Degree is an added advantage.
- ZAQA qualifications verification certificates.
- Minimum of 3 years relevant experience in a similar role.
- Knowledge and skill in the international standards (ASTM, IEC, BS, ISO, ARSO etc).
- Member of the Engineering Institution of Zambia (EIZ).
- Computer Literate in Excel and Word Processing.
- Ability to write clear and accurate reports in English.
- Ability to speak fluent English and communicate clearly with clients and superiors.
- Sober character, ethical and capable of handling confidential matters.
- Conversant with laboratory safety, health and environment matters.
6. Assistant Laboratory Analyst – Microbiology (ZABS 6 × 1)
Job Purpose
To conduct test and provide analytical data and related information in the Chemist and Microbiology testing laboratories by the maintenance of the laboratory.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine and non-routine laboratory and field test work as required in accordance with approved test tubes and procedures.
- Conduct and monitor quality control measures to ensure credibility of testing results.
- Carry out sampling and samples preparations in accordance with approved procedures.
- Comply and present accurate and timely reports on test results.
- Perform equipment immediate checks to ensure proper management and maintenance of laboratory materials consumables and equipment.
- Comply with established procedures and take necessary precautions to avoid accidents and ensure a healthy and safe working environment.
Qualifications, Experience & Personal Attributes
- Grade 12 Certificate.
- Diploma in Laboratory Science, Microbiology or a related field.
- Bachelor's Degree in Science Chemistry or related field will be an added advantage.
- ZAQA qualifications verification certificates.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in a busy Microbiology, Chemistry or food Science Laboratory.
- Must have good communication skills.
- Strong analytical and Problem-Solving Skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of the team.

7. Assistant Laboratory Analysts – Chemistry (ZABS 6 × 2)
Job Purpose
To conduct test and provide analytical data and related information in the Chemist and Microbiology testing laboratories by the maintenance of the laboratory.

8. Assistant Accountant (ZABS 6 × 1)
Job Purpose
To provide support in finance by performing routine accounting tasks, maintaining financial records, processing transactions, and assisting with financial reporting.
Key Responsibilities
- Process receipts, payments, and journals into the accounting system.
- Processes invoices and ensure timely payment by vendors.
- Maintains accurate and up-to-date financial records, including ledgers, receipts, and other supporting documentation.
- Organizes and files financial documents for easy retrieval during audits and financial reviews.
- Prepare monthly bank reconciliations by comparing ledger entries with bank statements.
- Preparation of balance sheets, profit and loss statements, and other financial reports as requested.
- Ensures that all accounting procedures and policies are followed to meet audit requirements.
- Managing accounts payables by reviewing, verifying, and processing vendor payments.
Qualifications, Experience & Personal Attributes
- Grade 12 Certificate.
- ZAQA qualifications verification certificates.
- Part Two ACCA, ZICA or CIMA.
- 3 years of experience in an accounting or finance role.
- Must be a member of ZICA.
- Ability to work with accuracy and precision, especially in data entry and financial documentation.
- Strong ability to work with numbers, financial data, and spreadsheets.
- Knowledge of Pastel Accounting Software.
9. Training Assistant Officer (ZABS 07 × 1)
Job Purpose
To assist in the planning, coordination, and evaluation of training sessions by maintaining training records and resources.
Key Responsibilities
- Assists in the planning, scheduling, and logistics of training programs and workshops.
- Coordinates with trainers and participants to ensure all training materials and resources are prepared and available.
- Helps organize training venues, including setup and cleanup, ensuring a conducive learning environment.
- Supports the development and updating of training materials, presentations, and manuals to align with current standards and practices.
- Assists in the creation of assessment tools and feedback forms to evaluate training effectiveness.
- Undertakes effectively the engagement of training clients in order to enhance the uptake of SQA services.
- Maintains an organized database of training records, resources, and materials, ensuring they are readily accessible.
- Supports the administration of the training budget, including tracking expenditures related to training programs.
- Ensure efficient processing of certificates within set time frames.
- Liaise with the Procurement Officer in ensuring that office resources (refreshments, stationery, cleaning materials) are provided in a timely manner in accordance with established procedures.
- Prepare reports as may be required by the Senior Training Officer for consolidation into monthly, quarterly and annual reports for the department.
- Perform other duties as maybe assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications, Experience & Personal Attributes
- Grade 12 Certificate.
- ZAQA Qualifications verification certificates.
- A diploma in human resource, library and information studies, education, or a social science related field.
- Two (2) years' experience in training coordination or administration is an advantage, particularly in a standardization or regulatory environment.
- Meticulous in maintaining records and preparing training materials, ensuring accuracy and quality.
- Ability to build positive relationships with participants and trainers, fostering a supportive training environment.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills to interact with participants, trainers, and management effectively.
- Meticulous in determining how to best address participant inquiries and support needs during training program.
- Ability to effectively resolve issues related to training logistics, such as last-minute changes in schedules or participant attendance.
- Ability to address challenges in training material development, seeking input from trainers and management.
