Background

The Energy Regulation Board (ERB) is a statutory body created by the Energy Regulation Act No. 12 of 2019 to regulate Zambia’s energy sector. The ERB is looking to hire a qualified and experienced Zambian national to fill the position of Engineer Renewable Energy to be based at its Head Office in Lusaka.

Job Purpose

To plan and undertake monitoring and enforcement of approved standards and regulations in the renewable energy sub-sector in accordance with the Energy Regulation Act.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Implement workplan for renewable energy installations to ensure they meet required standards
  • Develop standards and technical specifications for the renewable energy sub-sector
  • Carry out technical inspections of renewable energy facilities
  • Implement planned and ad hoc compliance inspections for product quality, safety, environmental and technical standards
  • Conduct on-the-spot investigations of accidents and prepare remedial reports
  • Review and conduct environmental impact assessments for renewable energy projects
  • Monitor performance of renewable energy generation plants
  • Design, maintain and update databases for renewable energy undertakings
  • Prepare inspection, weekly and monthly reports for management
  • Advise management on infrastructure developments and propose amendments to standards
  • Provide technical advice to ERB departments on renewable energy, tariff, licence and guideline reviews

  • Technical and Regulatory Knowledge: Interpret Acts, standards and regulations
  • Inspection and Compliance Skills: Conduct technical, environmental and compliance inspections
  • Analytical Skills: Review major renewable energy infrastructure and performance trends
  • Report Writing Skills: Technical guidelines, inspection reports, audit reports
  • Database Management Skills: Design and maintain databases for regulatory purposes
  • Communication Skills: Explain technical terminology to stakeholders
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Engage licensees, government agencies, standards and environmental bodies
  • Courtesy and Professionalism

Minimum Qualifications

  • Grade 12 Certificate with five (5) credits or better
  • Degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Electrical/Electronics Engineering or other relevant engineering field
  • Member of the Engineering Institution of Zambia (EIZ)
  • Minimum 5 years working experience in renewable energy, electricity, petroleum subsectors or regulation
  • Verification of all qualifications by ZAQA is required
