JOB DESCRIPTION – SAFETY OFFICER

JOB PURPOSE

The Safety Officer is responsible for ensuring a safe and healthy working environment across Silverline Engineering Limited’s construction and engineering projects. The officer will monitor site activities, identify hazards, enforce safety procedures, and ensure compliance with company, client, and statutory safety requirements.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Conduct daily safety inspections at construction and engineering sites.

Identify workplace hazards and recommend appropriate control measures.

Conduct toolbox talks, safety inductions, and safety awareness sessions.

Ensure workers properly use required PPE.

Monitor construction activities including excavation, scaffolding, lifting operations, welding, fabrication, electrical works, and machinery operations.

Conduct risk assessments and Job Safety/Task Hazard Analyses.

Investigate accidents, incidents, near misses, and unsafe acts.

Prepare and maintain HSE reports, inspection checklists, and incident records.

Ensure proper housekeeping and safe access within work areas.

Monitor compliance with company HSE policies, client requirements, and applicable Zambian safety regulations.

Ensure emergency procedures, fire safety, and evacuation arrangements are maintained.

Report unsafe conditions and recommend corrective actions to supervisors and management.

Work closely with project managers, engineers, supervisors, and workers to promote a strong safety culture.

Participate in site safety meetings and provide regular safety reports to management.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

Diploma or Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety, Safety Management, or a related field.

Minimum 2–3 years’ experience in construction, engineering, mining, or industrial safety.

Knowledge of construction site safety practices and risk management.

Experience in conducting safety inspections, toolbox talks, and incident investigations.

Good knowledge of PPE, emergency procedures, and safe work practices.

Good communication, leadership, and reporting skills.

Computer literate, with knowledge of Microsoft Office.

Ability to work on construction sites and under pressure.
